Gordon Field, Waltham, Mass.

FINAL:              #7 BRANDEIS 1, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0

WALTHAM, Mass. --  Sophomore Patrick Flahive’s (Chatham, Ill.) goal 1:38 into the second half proved to be the game-winner and lifted seventh-ranked Brandeis to a 1-0 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Gordon Field.

Flahive converted an indirect kick from junior Josh Ocel (North Attleboro, Mass.) for his first marker of the season that extended the host Judges’ (11-1-1) unbeaten streak to 10 straight contests, and senior Kenn Fryer (Wilmington, Mass.) made that stand up by making a pair of saves in goal to record his fourth victory and third shutout of the season for Brandeis.  Junior Joe Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.) suffered the setback in net with an eight save effort for the visiting Buccaneers (4-7), who had a chance to even the match in the closing minutes on a shot by sophomore Alex Thompson (Mansfield, Mass.) that was kicked out by a defender.  The Judges outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 24-8 margin overall (9-3 on goal), and Brandeis took seven of the eight corner kicks for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to North Adams, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on MCLA in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match that begins at 1:00 p.m., while Brandeis hosts the University of Chicago in a University Athletic Association outing on Friday evening at Gordon Field beginning at 6:30 p.m.
