Perry’s 20th Season At Massachusetts Maritime

Former Bridgewater-Raynham and Westfield State soccer standout Greg Perry is beginning his 20th season as men’s coach at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

A Marshfield resident, Perry is the winningest coach in program history, with 129 career victories entering the Bucs’ season-opener last Friday against visiting Curry College.

“My players balance attaining excellence on the soccer field with our studies and in the regiment of cadets,” said Perry, who led Bridgewater-Raynham to a state championship in 1982 as a sophomore and was a two-time team captain in college.

“Meeting those challenges will carry them through many different situations for the rest of their lives, and I’m extremely proud of them.”

A two-time Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Perry recruits heavily on the South Shore, and this year is no exception.  His nine area players include returning starters Stephen Machaby, a junior from Rockland, and Rob Robbs, a sophomore from Braintree.

Perry’s brother, Mike, longtime varsity boys’ basketball coach at Cardinal Spellman High in Brockton, will be inducted into the Westfield State Athletic Hall of Fame in October.  Another brother, Steve, was a former assistant baseball coach at Westfield.
