Massachusetts Maritime junior midfielder Hieu Nguyen was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week on Sunday evening for his performance in three season opening matches for the Buccaneers last week.

A native of Weymouth, Mass. and a graduate of Matignon High School, Nguyen tallied three times for Head Coach Greg Perry’s squad, including a pair of game-winning “golden goals” in 1-0 victories over Curry on August 31^st and Becker on September 5^th, both of which came at Clean Harbors Stadium.  Nguyen netted Massachusetts Maritime’s lone goal of the day in a 1-1 double overtime draw at Lesley on Saturday afternoon.

The Buccaneers are off to their best start in nine seasons under Perry, who is in his 20^th campaign on the sidelines at the Academy.  Massachusetts Maritime looks to keep its unbeaten record intact on Wednesday evening with a trip to Boston to take on Wentworth in a non-league match that begins at 7:00 p.m. EDT., and the Buccaneers return home on Saturday, September 15^th to take on Westfield State in their MASCAC opener at Noon EDT.
