NEW LONDON, Conn. --  Junior Kyle Grell (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) netted a goal and an assist to lead Coast Guard to a 4-0 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Cadet Memorial Field.

Grell gave the host Bears (5-3) the only marker they would need just 2:43 into action when he converted a feed from fellow junior Joe Bodzewski (Seattle, Wash.), and tallies by sophomore John Tarzian (Garden City, N.Y.) in the 13th minutes and junior Robert Copeland (Huntsville, Ala.) in the 21st minute extended Coast Guard’s advantage to 3-0 at the break.  Junior Matt Epperly (Fredericksburg, Va.) collected the other tally for the hosts when he converted a Grell feed in the 62nd minute to account for the final score.

Senior Greg Kennerley (Weymouth, Mass.), junior John Rendon (West Harwich, Mass.) and sophomore Matthew Bogdan (Lexington Park, Md.) each notched assists in the triumph for Coast Guard, as sophomore Richie Burns (Long Beach, Calif.) picked up the win in goal with one save over the first 68-plus minutes of play.  Senior Brett Young (Falmouth, Mass.) suffered the setback in net for the visiting Buccaneers (4-3-1) while making four saves in 73-plus minutes of action, as sophomore Andrew Brown (Bel Air, Md.) made two stops over the final 16-plus minutes of play.  The Bears outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 12-5 margin for the contest and took all three corner kicks on the night.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Anna Maria in a non-league outing on Thursday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Coast Guard travels to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Clark in a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference match that begins at 3:30 p.m.
