BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --  Senior Adam Smith’s (Kingston, Mass.) goal in the 66th minute up play held up as the game-winner and lifted Bridgewater State to a 1-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field.

Smith converted a feed from fellow senior Simao Mendes (Brockton, Mass.) on the deciding tally for the host Bears (5-7-1, 2-2-1 MASCAC), and junior Matt Bagley (Braintree, Mass.) made that stand up by making six saves in goal to record his fifth victory and third shutout of the season.

Senior Brett Young (Falmouth, Mass.) made five saves in suffering the setback in net for the visiting Buccaneers (6-5-2, 1-3-1 MASCAC), as Bridgewater State outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 16-14 margin in a contest that saw each team take three corners.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Worcester, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on WPI in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 p.m., while Bridgewater State hosts Wheaton in a non-league match on Wednesday afternoon at Swenson Field beginning at 3:30 p.m.
