BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Matt McDonnell's (Marshfield, Mass.) goal in the 22nd minute of play held up as the game-winner in lifting Massachusetts Maritime to a 1-0 non-league college men's soccer victory over Wentworth Thursday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

McDonnell converted a crossing pass from sophomore Ryan Fischer (Marshfield, Mass.) and re-directed it in for his first goal of the season in the triumph for the host Buccaneers (6-7-1), and freshman Patrick Slaney (Northbridge, Mass.) made that stand up with a pair of saves to record his first collegiate victory and shutout for Massachusetts Maritime, which surpassed its overall win total of last season with the result.

Junior Devin Pleuler (Gloucester, Mass.) made seven saves, including three point-blank stops in the opening 45 minutes of action, in the setback for the visiting Leopards (8-7) as the Buccaneers outshot Wentworth by a 14-5 margin for the contest, including a 11-2 advantage in the first half of play alone.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Worcester State in a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference outing on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Wentworth hosts Regis in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Sweeney Field in Boston that begins at Noon.
