FITCHBURG, Mass. --  Junior Lionso Ventura (Westminster, Mass.) netted a pair of second half goals to lift Fitchburg State to a 2-0 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference men's soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Elliot Field.

Ventura broke a scoreless tie with his third tally of the season 3:18 after intermission on a feed from fellow junior Joseph Daigle (Holyoke, Mass.) that gave the host Falcons (4-7-2, 1-3-1 MASCAC) the only marker they would need, and he added an insurance tally in the 57th minute after converting a pass from sophomore Kevin Mascary (North Easton, Mass.) to close out the scoring for the contest.

Senior Matt Carey (Stratford, Conn.) made nine saves to pick up the shutout win in goal for Fitchburg State, while sophomore Taylor Wyman (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) made three stops in net in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (5-7-1, 0-5 MASCAC) as Massachusetts Maritime outshot the Falcons by a 23-12 margin for the match, including a 12-7 second half edge.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Wentworth in a non-league outing on Thursday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Fitchburg State hosts Becker in a non-league match on Wednesday afternoon at Elliot Field beginning at 4:00 p.m.
