Fitchburg Defeats MMA 2-1 In Men's Soccer

Fitchburg State College (4-8-2) struck quickly in Saturday's Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference men's soccer 2-1 victory, taking just 7:35 to find the net for the first time. The Falcons took that 1-0 lead into the break adding a second goal in the 63rd minute of the second half. Massachusetts Maritime spoiled Fitchburg keeper Matthew Carey's (Stratford, CT.) shutout bid with just 1:25 remaining in the match. Jeffery Loven (Littleton) opened the scoring for the Falcons with an unassisted effort that got past MMA keeper Tim Meighan (E. Bridgewater).

In the second half, David Tyler (Hubbardston) teamed up with junior striker Tom Kennedy (Leicester) to give Fitchburg a 2-0 advantage. In the 89th minute the Bucs broke through as sophomore Christopher Corr (Bradford) blasted a shot past Carey to put MMA on the scoreboard. MMA (1-13-1) plays again Thursday when they will host Eastern Nazarene College at 6 pm.
