BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Chris Landers (Manchester, Mass.) netted six goals and an assist for seven points to lead Wheaton to a 14-9 Pilgrim Lacrosse League victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Landers and sophomore Billy McNamara (Mansfield, Mass.) each scored twice in the opening 15 minutes of play as the visiting Lyons (6-7, 4-2 Pilgrim) notched six of the first seven markers of the contest, but the host Buccaneers (2-12, 0-6 Pilgrim) struck for four tallies over the first 10:26 of the second stanza to close back to within one at 6-5 on junior Chris Davis’s (Cohasset, Mass.) goal with 4:34 remaining in the half.  Landers scored the final two markers before intermission to extend Wheaton’s lead to 8-5 at the break, and the two teams traded a pair of tallies each in the third quarter before the Lyons iced their triumph with three unanswered goals by Landers, senior Warren Garceau (Guilford, Conn.) and freshman Sean Doherty (East Lyme, Conn.) in a 5:58 span of the final stanza.

McNamara added two assists to finish with four points in the win for Wheaton, which also received a goal and three helpers off the stick of junior Ben Cederberg (Duxbury, Mass.).  Juniors Duncan Smith (Centerport, N.Y.) and Bobby Barry (Duxbury, Mass.), along with sophomore David Schroeder (Nashua, N.H.) added single tallies for the Lyons, who also received an assist off the stick of senior Drew Schaffer (New Haven, Conn.).

Senior Connor Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) netted four goals and an assist to finish with five points in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of markers each from junior Craig Nichols (Marshfield, Mass.) and sophomore Kyle Scannell (Tierra Verde, Fla.).  Davis added an assist to go with his tally for the Buccaneers, who also received single helpers off the sticks of juniors Michael Lambros (Forestdale, Mass.) and Ryan Linn (Bourne, Mass.) as well as sophomore Peter Menard (Somerset, Mass.).

Senior Schuyler Horn (New Hartford, Conn.) picked up the win in goal for Wheaton with a pair of saves on the evening, while senior James Hitchings (Dover, Mass.) made 19 stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime as the Lyons outshot the Buccaneers by a 60-19 margin for the match (33-11 on goal) and held an 18-8 advantage in face-offs for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime closes out its 2010 slate on Saturday afternoon by heading to Newton, Mass. to take on Lasell in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League outing that begins at 1:00 p.m., while Wheaton travels to Northfield, Vt. on Saturday afternoon for its Pilgrim Lacrosse League regular season finale with Norwich that also begins at 1:00 p.m.
