BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Jonathan Falls (Seekonk, Mass.) scored a pair of goals and added an assist for three points to lead Salem State to a 7-5 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Vikings (4-2) overcame an early one-goal deficit on markers by Falls and sophomore Kyle Dolan (North Andover, Mass.) to grab a 2-1 lead after 15 minutes of play, and freshman Alex Robertson (Ipswich, Mass.) extended that margin to 3-1 just 1:17 into the second stanza before goals off the sticks of junior Ryan Linn (Bourne, Mass.) and senior Connor Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) in a 2:03 span enabled the host Buccaneers (1-5) to forge a 3-3 tie.  Falls and freshman Ryan Savini (Wilmington, Mass.) netted tallies in a 36-second span, the last coming with 56 seconds remaining in the half, to stake Salem State to a 5-3 edge, but Linn’s second tally of the period with two seconds to play before intermission enabled Massachusetts Maritime to close back to within one at the break.  The Vikings sandwiched man-up goals by Robertson and senior Robert Mulroy (Swampscott, Mass.) around a marker off the stick of Buccaneer junior Michael Lambros (Forestdale, Mass.) in the third quarter, and both teams had man-up chances in the final frame but played a scoreless fourth quarter.

Robertson joined Falls with two goals in the triumph for Salem State, which also received a marker and assist from Dolan as well as single helpers off the sticks of senior Justin Jones (Danvers, Mass.) and freshman Ryan Gendreau (Danvers, Mass.).  Junior Craig Nichols (Marshfield, Mass.) netted the first goal of the evening for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received an assist from freshman James Burns (Duxbury, Mass.) in the setback.

Junior Brendan Gill (Chelmsford, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Salem State with a 15-save effort, while senior James Hitchings (Dover, Mass.) made a season-high 19 stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime as the Vikings outshot the Buccaneers by a 35-25 margin for the contest and converted both of their man-up opportunities while holding the hosts scoreless in six man-down situations.

Massachusetts Maritime begins Pilgrim Lacrosse League play on Saturday evening by heading to Worcester, Mass. to take on Clark in a league match that begins at 6:00 p.m., while Salem State hosts UMass Boston in a non-league outing on Saturday afternoon in Salem, Mass. beginning at 1:00 p.m.
