CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Junior Nick Sisler (Waterbury Center, Vt.) scored four goals and added a pair of assists for six points, while senior Corey Garvey (Garden City, N.Y.) added a pair of tallies and five helpers for seven points to lead MIT to a 12-3 Pilgrim Lacrosse League victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Roberts Field.
Garvey netted both of his goals in the opening 4:57 of play to help the host Engineers (6-5, 2-2 Pilgrim) take a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes of action and a 6-1 advantage at the break, as MIT used a pair of man-up markers in the third stanza to increase its edge to 9-1 heading into the final frame. Sophomore Carl Tilbury (Newbury, United Kingdom) added a hat trick for the hosts, who also received a pair of goals from junior John Kucharczyk (Manhasset, N.Y.). Sophomore Bryan Beller (Dix Hills, N.Y.) notched the other marker of the evening for the Engineers, who also received a pair of assists off the stick of freshman Gabe Blanchet (Hadley, Mass.).
Junior Chris Davis (Cohasset, Mass.) collected a pair of goals in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (2-10, 0-4 Pilgrim), who also received a marker off the stick of senior Connor Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) as well as single assists from sophomore Nick Bronski (Needham, Mass.) and freshman Parker Simon (Kennett Square, Pa.).
Freshman Christopher Rullan (Wexford, Pa.) picked up the win in goal for MIT with a 15-save effort, while senior James Hitchings (Dover, Mass.) made 11 stops in 55-plus minutes of action in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime as the Engineers outshot the Buccaneers by a 35-27 margin for the match.
Massachusetts Maritime hosts Springfield in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League contest on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m., while MIT heads to Babson Park, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Babson in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League clash that also begins at 1:00 p.m.
