Massachusetts Maritime Places Four Student-Athletes On 2010 Pilgrim Lacrosse League All-Academic Team

Buzzards Bay, Mass.--  Four members of the Massachusetts Maritime men’s lacrosse team have been honored for their work in the classroom with selection to the 2010 Pilgrim Lacrosse League All-Academic Team announced by Pilgrim League Commissioner Craig Poisson.

In order to be selected for the Pilgrim League All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and be a significant contributor to his team.

Leading the Buccaneer quartet is senior attack Brian Burke (Del Mar, Calif./San Diegutio Academy), who earned his third Pilgrim League All-Academic accolade to go with a pair of all-conference honors for his performance on the field during his career.  Though limited to just 11 matches due to injury this season, Burke netted nine goals and four assists for 13 points after leading Massachusetts Maritime in scoring as a junior, as he chipped in with 21 ground balls and five caused turnovers while concluding his career among the leaders in goals and points at the Academy.

Joining Burke on the 2010 Pilgrim League All-Academic Team are sophomore midfielder Kyle Scannell (Tierra Verde, Fla./Lakewood) as well as freshmen Parker Simon (Kennett Square, Pa./Salesianum) and Kevin Flanigan (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich), who shined at the attack and midfield positions, respectively, as rookies in the Buccaneer lineup this spring.  Scannell netted five goals and an assist for six points in 14 contests, while Simon notched six markers and three helpers for nine points in 12 appearances.  Flanigan chipped in with a goal and three assists for four points in 12 outing for Massachusetts Maritime, as he and Parker combined for 14 starts.

The Buccaneers notched three overall victories under Head Coach Barry Joyce in 2010, including a 14-8 triumph over rival Maine Maritime and an 8-7 overtime Pilgrim League win at Lasell.
