SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Senior Jake Beebe (Sudbury, Mass.) netted a pair of goals and five assists for seven points to lead Springfield to a 23-5 Pilgrim Lacrosse League victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.
The host Pride (6-4, 4-0 Pilgrim) scored 16 of the first 17 goals of the match en route to their third straight triumph, as sophomore Kyle Louer (Islip, N.Y.) added a hat trick and two assists of his own for five points. Senior Jake Jones (Amherst, Mass.) and freshman Pat Fanning (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) notched hat tricks as well for Springfield, which also received two goals and an assist each off the sticks of senior Steve Roland (Somers, Conn.) and freshman Jarrid Johnson (Orlando, Fla.) as well as a marker and helper each from senior Chris Jez (Somers, Conn.), sophomore Austin Orsini (Webster, N.Y.) and freshman Harry Bernstein (Westfield, N.J.).
Junior Brian Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) netted a pair of goals in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (4-5, 0-3 Pilgrim), who also received single tallies off the sticks of senior John Herman (Stamford, Conn.), sophomore Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.) and freshman Will Doucette (Manchester, Mass.).
The trio of senior Tom Albano (Ridgewood, N.J.) and freshmen Cory Ender (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and Marc Martinez (Babylon, N.Y.) combined for seven saves in goal on the day for Springfield, while the tandem of senior Alex Deveaux (Northboro, Mass.) and junior James Hitchings (Dover, Mass.) made 13 stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime as the Pride outshot the Buccaneers by a 61-20 margin for the match.
Massachusetts Maritime heads to Norton, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon for a Pilgrim Lacrosse League clash with Wheaton that begins at 4:00 p.m., while Springfield travels to Amherst, Mass. for a non-league match with Amherst on Wednesday evening that begins at 7:00 p.m.
