NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- Junior Brian Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) netted a hat trick to back an eight-save effort in goal by senior Alex Deveaux (Northboro, Mass.) as Massachusetts Maritime closed out regular season play by extending its winning streak to four straight with a 12-10 Pilgrim Lacrosse League victory over Norwich Saturday afternoon at Howard Field.

The visiting Buccaneers (8-6, 3-4 Pilgrim), who have doubled their win total of the last two seasons combined, scored the first four goals of the match and six of the first seven markers in the first quarter en route to a 6-3 advantage after 15 minutes of action, and Massachusetts Maritime extended that margin to 8-3 early in the second stanza before the host Cadets (3-9, 0-7 Pilgrim) scored three of the final four goals before intermission to slice their deficit to 9-6 at the break. Norwich closed to within two on freshman Patrick Sikora's (East Montpelier, Vt.) tally just 55 seconds into the third quarter, but goals by Brian Burke and senior Dan O'Brien (Weymouth, Mass.) staked the Buccaneers to an 11-7 lead heading into the fourth frame and kept that margin in tact until the Cadets tallied twice in the final 2:19 of action to account for the final score.

Junior Connor Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) added a pair of goals and an assist for three points in the win for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received two goals from O'Brien as well as a goal and two assists each from senior Kevin Schultz (Crofton, Md.) and sophomore Ryan Linn (Bourne, Mass.). Freshman Kyle Scannell (Tierra Verde, Fla.) chipped in with a marker and helper as well for the winners, who also received single tallies off the sticks of senior John Herman (Stamford, Conn.) and sophomore Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.).

Junior Kyle Marzeoti (Billerica, Mass.) netted four goals and an assist for five points in the setback for Norwich, which also received two goals from sophomore Kevin Young (Westfield, Mass.) and an goal and an assist each from Sikora and sophomore Tyler Nicoll (Ogden, Utah). Sophomore Tyler Woods (Essex Junction, Vt.) and freshman Frank Candelmo (North Providence, R.I.) each added single markers for the Cadets, who also received two assists off the stick of senior Craig Van Yahres (Paoli, Pa.).

Deveaux picked up his second straight win in goal with his eight-save effort for Massachusetts Maritime, while sophomore Ryan Leroux (Potsdam, N.Y.) and freshman Nathan Proctor (Pleasanton, Calif.) combined for 14 stops in net for Norwich as the Buccaneers outshot the Cadets by a 46-30 margin for the match.

Massachusetts Maritime will await word of a possible berth in the upcoming 2009 ECAC Division III New England Championships, as those pairings will be announced next weekend, while Norwich closes out its season on Tuesday afternoon by hosting Daniel Webster in a non-league outing at Howard Field beginning at 4:00 p.m.
