BUZZARDS BAY, Mass.-- Freshman Ernie Park (Plainsboro, N.J.) notched a hat trick and two assists for five points to lead MIT to a 9-4 Pilgrim Lacrosse League victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Commander Ellis Field.

Senior Neil Zimmerman (Dallas, Tex.) added a pair of first half markers and an assist for the visiting Engineers (3-5, 1-1 Pilgrim), who jumped out to a 5-0 advantage over the first 25-plus minutes of play before senior John Herman's (Stamford, Conn.) tally late in the second quarter cut the host Buccaneers' (3-4, 0-2 Pilgrim) deficit to four at the break. Park's second goal of the day three minutes after intermission extended MIT's edge to 6-1, but markers off the sticks of Herman and sophomores Ryan Linn (Bourne, Mass.) and Max Wigglesworth (Beverly, Mass.) enabled Massachusetts Maritime to creep to within two (6-4) late in the third stanza. The visitors then netted the final three goal of the match, including Park's third goal of the contest early in the final quarter, to account for the final score.

Senior Ryan Ballentine (Simsbury, Conn.) and junior Corey Garvey (Garden City, N.Y.) each added a goal and an assist in the win for MIT, which also received single markers off the sticks of seniors Patrick Shannon (Andover, Mass.) and Dylan Roden (Bellport, N.Y.). Herman netted two tallies in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received assists from junior Brian Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) and sophomore Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.).

Junior Garth Grove (Jarrettsville, Md.) picked up the win in goal for MIT with an eight-save effort, while junior James Hitchings (Dover, Mass.) made 13 stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime as the Engineers outshot the Buccaneers by a 32-22 margin for the match.

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Leicester, Mass. on Thursday evening to take on Becker in a non-league outing that begins at 7:30 p.m., while MIT hosts UMass Boston in a non-league match on Tuesday afternoon in Cambridge, Mass. that begins at 4:00 p.m.
