BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Junior Brian Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) netted six goals and three assists for a nine-point performance to back a 19-save effort in goal from fellow junior James Hitchings (Dover, Mass.) as Massachusetts Maritime notched a 17-10 Pilgrim Lacrosse League victory over Lasell Saturday afternoon at Commander Ellis Field.

The host Buccaneers (5-6, 1-4 Pilgrim) jumped out to a 4-0 first quarter lead on the strength of a pair of goals off the stick of junior Connor Burke (Del Mar, Calif.), and after the visiting Lasers (4-9, 2-3 Pilgrim) scored the first two goals of the second stanza, Massachusetts Maritime ran off four straight tallies, taking an 8-2 edge on goals by Brian Burke and sophomore Michael Lambros (Forestdale, Mass.) that came 16 seconds apart midway through the quarter. Lasell netted the final three goals of the half for a 9-5 Buccaneer lead at the break, and after the two teams traded four goals each in the third stanza, the hosts scored four of the final five goals of the match, including two more tallies off the stick of Brian Burke, to account for the final margin.

Connor Burke added a hat trick and an assist for four points in the win for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received two goals and two assists from senior Kevin Schultz (Crofton, Md.) as well as a pair of markers and a helper each from senior John Herman (Stamford, Conn.) and sophomore Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.). Sophomore Ryan Linn (Bourne, Mass.) added a goal and two assists for the Buccaneers, who also received a goal and an assist from Lambros as well as a single helper off the stick of sophomore Mark Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.).

Senior Mike Maggio (Winchester, Mass.) netted five goals and added a pair of assists in the setback for Lasell, which also received a goal and an assist from junior Brandon Keith (Marstons Mills, Mass.). Seniors Ryan Koerner (Floral Park, N.Y.) and Dave Bulhoes (Billerica, Mass.), along with junior Brian Yepez (Hillsborough, N.J.) and sophomore Chris Bulkley (Groton, Conn.), also tallied for the Lasers, who received single assists off the sticks of sophomore Sean Speciale (Hillsborough, N.J.) and freshman Adam Foss (Billerica, Mass.).

Hitchings made 14 of his season-high save total in the opening 30 minutes of action to pick up his fifth win of the season in goal for Massachusetts Maritime, while sophomore Mike Kelliher (Weymouth, Mass.) made 10 stops in net for Lasell as the Lasers outshot the Buccaneers by a 46-36 margin for the contest.
