BEVERLY, Mass. -- Senior Brandon Dube (Danvers, Mass.) netted five goals and two assists for seven points as top-seeded and 17th-ranked Endicott broke open a two-goal affair by scoring seven of the final nine markers of the match en route to a 17-10 victory over fifth-seeded Massachusetts Maritime in semi-final round play of the 2009 ECAC Division III New England Men's Lacrosse Championships Saturday afternoon at Endicott Stadium.

The host Gulls, now 16-4 overall on the season, advance to Sunday's championship round to take on the winner of Saturday's second semi-final contest between second-seeded Wheaton and third-seeded New England College, as Sunday's title tilt begins at 3:00 p.m. at Endicott Stadium.

Dube scored all five of his goals in the first quarter of action for Endicott, including four markers over the final 4:47 of the opening stanza that enabled the Gulls to snap a 2-2 tie and take an 8-3 lead after 15 minutes of play. The hosts extended that margin to 10-4 in the second quarter before the visiting Buccaneers, who finish the season at 9-7 overall, closed the gap to four (10-6) at the break on goals by senior Kevin Schultz (Crofton, Md.) and junior Connor Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) in the final 2:42 before intermission, and Massachusetts Maritime received a pair of tallies off the sticks of Connor and fellow junior Brian Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) in a 1:31 span midway through the third quarter to creep to within two at 10-8. Endicott scored late in the third frame to take an 11-8 edge into the final 15 minutes of play, and the Gulls netted six of eight markers scored in the quarter, including a hat trick by freshman Justin Sproul (Londonderry, N.H.), to ice their triumph and advance to the championship round.

Senior Nick Cosco (Londonderry, N.H.) and junior Brad Lipkvich (Madison, Conn.) each added a pair of goals and an assist for three points in the win for Endicott, which also received a goal and two assists from senior Dan Cain (Billerica, Mass.) as well as a tally and helper off the stick of freshman Connor Prescott (Norwalk, Conn.). Sophomores Phillip Carr (Melrose, Mass.) and Kyle Jordan (Falmouth, Maine), along with freshman Brian Vincent (Norwalk, Conn.), also tallied in the triumph for the Gulls, who received single assists from seniors Shawn Murphy (Weymouth, Mass.) and Taylor Wuenneman (Southington, Conn.).

Brian Burke finished with a game-high six goals and an assist for seven points in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as he recorded eight hat tricks in 16 contests to finish with 42 goals and 15 assists for 57 points in an all-Pilgrim Lacrosse League campaign. Schultz closed out his career with a pair of goals and two assists for the Buccaneers, who also received two goals and a helper from Connor Burke as well as single assists off the Bourne, Mass. tandem of senior Brendan and sophomore Ryan Linn.

Junior Eric Hagarty (Sudbury, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Endicott with a 16-save effort, while senior Alex Deveaux (Northboro, Mass.) was solid in his final contest in net for Massachusetts Maritime with 14 saves as the Gulls outshot the Buccaneers by a 52-45 margin.

The Buccaneers posted their highest win total in seven years under fourth year Head Coach Barry Joyce this spring and closed out the spring with five wins in their last six outings, including last Wednesday's come-from-behind 10-9 quarterfinal round triumph over Plymouth State in the ECAC New England Quarterfinals.
