Springfield College Tops MMA 12-8 in Men's Lacrosse

Massachusetts Maritime Academy sophomore James Hitchings (Dover) made 15 saves Saturday, but it wasn't enough to stop Springfield College (5-5) as the Pride claimed a 12-8 victory over the Buccaneers (3-5) in mens lacrosse.

Brian Burke (Del Mar, CA) opened the scoring three minutes into the opening period with an unassisted effort to give MMA an early lead. Springfield bounced right back scoring six times to take a 6-3 lead after the opening 15 minutes. At the half the Pride held a 9-4 advantage.

Kyle Gable (Somers, CT) led the Pride offense finishing the afternoon with a hat trick Jake Beebe (Sudbury) and Joe Heney (Plainview, NY) each tossed in two goals for Springfield.

The Buccaneers were led by John Herman (Stanford, CT) and Bryan Sears (Scituate) who also ended the day with two goals apiece.

Hitchings faced 27 shots from the pride in an outstanding defensive effort. Tom Albano (Ridgewood, NJ) made eight saves for Springfield to pick up the win.

The Pride held an edge off the face-off winning 21-of-24. Springfield outshot the Buccaneers 50-36. With the win the Pride improves to 3-0 in Pilgrim League play, while the Bucs fall to 0-3.
