Bucs Edge Clark 10-9 on Late Herman Goal

Junior attackman John Herman (Stamford, CT) scored the game-winning goal just 57 seconds into the fourth quarter and Massachusetts Maritime Academy held off Clark University for the remainder of the game to post a 10-9 Pilgrim League victory in men's lacrosse action on Tuesday night. The Buccaneers upped their record to 4-7 (2-4 Pilgrim), while Clark fell to 3-11 overall and 1-5 in league play.

Junior Matt Sullivan (Marshfield) netted three goals to lead Mass. Maritime, while sophomores Connor Burke (Del Mar, CA) and Ed Klodarska (Media, PA) each chipped in with two goals.

Leading the attack for Clark was senior Andrew Webber (Allendale, NJ) with five goals. Junior Shawn Roche (Centerport, NY), senior Dan Stern (Westport, Conn.), sophomore Chris Adams (Bradford, NH) and freshman Kevin Schofield (Concord, NH) added single tallies for the Cougars. It was Schofield's first career goal.

With the score deadlocked 6-6 after the break, MMA unleashed two quick goals, just 37 seconds apart, to take an 8-6 edge. Junior Daniel O'Brien (Weymouth) found the back of the net at the 9:08 mark to put the Bucs up by three (9-6).

Clark answered with three straight goals, including a pair by Webber, to even things up at 9-9 with 10 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Buccaneers then took the lead for good on Herman's game-winner at the 14:03 mark of the fourth quarter.

Clark took an early 3-2 edge on a pair of goals from Webber and a marker from Adams in the first period. The Buccaneers battled back though scoring four of the next six goals to take a 6-5 lead, before Stern tied it up with two seconds remaining in the first half.

The Bucs held a 31-27 advantage in shots, whihe Clark maintained a 45-35 margin in ground balls.

Sophomore James Hitchings (Dover) stopped eight shots in goal for MMA. Junior Tyler Campbell (Portland, OR) made 11 saves for Clark.
