Lyons Scratch Out 8-5 Win in Men's Lax Over MMA

Ball control and passing helped the Wheaton College (4-8) Lyons post an 8-5 victory over the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers (3-6) Wednesday. The Lyons came out of the gate shooting picking up their first goal of the afternoon just 16 seconds into the first quarter. Wheaton scored a second goal with 26 seconds left in the quarter to take a 2-0 lead.

The Bucs struck back 2:31 into the second quarter on a goal by Brian Burke (Del Mar, CA). Brian Burke then dished the ball off to twin brother Connor a minute later to tie the game at 2-2. Chris Landers (Manchester) tallied on an unassisted effort before the end of the quarter to give the Lyons a 3-2 edge at the break.

Tim Horan (Cheshire, CT) and Ducan Smith (Centerport, NY) hit early in the third quarter for the Lyons, but Brian and Connor Burke again teamed up to score making it a 5-3 game after three quarters.

Ben Cederberg (Duxbury), Smith and Connor Compton (Deering NH) each struck once in the final quarter for the Lyons with Compton applying the finishing touches with 2:21 to play. Ed Klodarska (Media, PA) and Matt Sullivan (Marshfield) had fourth quarter goals for the Bucs.

Schuyler Horn (New Hartford, CT) made a dozen saves in goal to pick up the win for the Lyons, while James Hitchings (Dover) stopped 15 shots for MMA.

Horan and Smith each had two goals for Wheaton, while Brian Burke tallied twice for the Bucs.
