FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --  Senior David Leach (Chelmsford, Mass.) rushed for 171 yards and a touchdown to lead Framingham State to a 20-13 New England Football Conference Bogan Division victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

The host Rams (5-4, 3-3 NEFC) overcame an early six-point deficit with a pair of scores in the second quarter to take a 14-6 edge at the break, as after junior Douglas Dyke (Plainville, Mass.) had capped a 16-play, 65-yard drive for the visiting Buccaneers (3-6, 2-4 NEFC) with a three-yard touchdown run midway through the opening stanza, freshman Brandon Holbrook (Carver, Mass.) scored from five yards out early in the second frame to give Framingham State a 7-6 edge.  The hosts then forced a Massachusetts Maritime punt on the following possession, and senior Anthony Kewley (Rutland, Mass.) returned the kick 82 yards for a touchdown and the eight-point Rams' advantage at intermission.  Leach extended that margin to 20-6 with a 34-yard run midway through the third quarter, but the Buccaneers closed back to within a touchdown early in the fourth stanza when junior Michael Tanner (Andover, Mass.) hooked up with sophomore Russ Metcalfe (Marshfield, Mass.) on a 19-yard touchdown pass.  Massachusetts Maritime had a golden chance to even matters in the final 2:56 of action when junior Darryl Foote (Wareham, Mass.) blocked a Framingham State punt at the Ram 29 yard line, and the visitors advanced to the hosts' 11-yard line but were unable to capitalize in turning the ball over on downs.

Leach added 19 passing yards to amass 190 yards of total offense in the win for Framingham State, which collected 270 yards of total offense for the contest.  Dyke rushed for 50 of Massachusetts Maritime's 170 yards of offense on the day, as Tanner and Metcalfe connected for three receptions for 35 yards and a score.  Junior Joe Treacy (Wakefield, Mass.) paced the Rams defensively with 12 total tackles (three solo) on the afternoon, while freshman Kevin Griffin (Worcester, Mass.) recorded a career-high nine stops for the Buccaneers, which also received five solo stops from senior Jim Erlwein (Livingston Manor, N.Y.) and a 20-yard interception return from sophomore Mike Bois (Lakeville, Mass.).

Massachusetts Maritime closes out its 2009 slate next Saturday afternoon by hosting rival Bridgewater State in the 31st Annual Cranberry Bowl presented by Ocean Spray at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at Noon, while Framingham State hosts Coast Guard in a New England Football Conference Bogan Division clash at Maple Street Field next Saturday at Noon.
