Men’s and Women’s Crew Begin Season on Merrimack River

LOWELL, Mass – This weekend marked the start of the Fall season for men's and women's rowing at the Textile River Regtta on the Merrimack River in Lowell, Mass. The top men's boat finished 14th with the second boat finishing 19th. The lone Buccaneer women's boat finished in 12th place in a 15 boat field.

The top men's boat, comprising of rowers, Gabriel Calouro, Jacob Awalt (Harwich, Mass), John Carey (Braintree, Mass), captain Quincy Smith (Hingham, Mass), and coxswain Eric Higgins (Marshfield, Mass) finished with a time of 18:33.3 for a top 15 finish. The second Maritime men's crew with Will Nolan (Braintree, Mass), Jack Gerrior (Middleboro, Mass), Aidan Alusic-Bingham (Antrim, N.H.), Seth Lapriore (Somerset, Mass) and coxswain Sean O'Connell (Weymouth, Mass) finished in 19th with a time of 19:58.5. Their finish was due in part to another boat, immediately in front of them, turned sideways blocking the Bucs who had to come to a complete stop and wait until the team straightened their boat back out.

The Buc's women's boat, filled with sophomore's Meghan Reilley (Pawling, N.Y.), Colleen Weir (North Andover, Mass), Coreen Carley (Brentwood, N.H.), and coxswain Miah Archambault (South Yarmouth, Mass) and senior captain Cat Swan (Ashland, Ohio) finished in 12th place, sandwiched between two Merchant Marine Academy boats. They finished with a time of 21:22.2.

Next up for crew is a trip to Worcester, Mass on Saturday, October 12th to take part in the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta.
