Maritime Crew Dominates the Field in Orleans

MMA rowers started their Spring season over the bridge in Orleans, Mass on Saturday. Orleans Sweeps & Sculls, a Cape Cod rowing club, sponsored a competition in which athletes rowed 5,000 meters on a rowing machine and ran two miles. The combined time for both events determined standings.  

In the 18-29 year old female category, Maritime crew captain Patria Swan (Ashland, Ohio) took second place with a combined time of 42:52.0. She rowed a time of 21:00.3 in the 5k rowing portion and ran her two miles in 21:51.7. Freshman Colleen Weir (North Andover, Mass) finished right behind Swan, in third, with a combined time of 51:17.0. 23:30.6 in the rowing portion and 27:46.4 in the two mile run.

Maritime men took the top three spots in the 18-29 male group. Nicholas Mirabile (Bedford, N.H.) finished in the top spot with a 19:50.6 row and a blistering 16:58.4 on the two mile run, giving him an overall time of 36:49.0. Finishing in second place was freshman Trevor Jackson (Reading, Penn), pulling 17:51.1 on the ergometer and running a 20:01.9, yielding a 37:59.0 combined time. Taking third was senior Cyrus Bastarache (Middleboro, Mass), finishing the row in 19:41.4 and completing the two mile road course in 19:19.6, for a 39:01.0 combined time.

The next competition for the Bucs will take place on Saturday, April 6th at Chebacco Lake in Essex, Mass in an event hosted by Endicott College.
