Crew Squads Combine For Trio Of Top Three Finishes At UMass Lowell River Hawk Challenge

LOWELL, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads combined to record a trio of top three performances during competition at the UMass Lowell River Hawk Challenge Saturday afternoon on the Merrimack River.

 

The Buccaneer women’s varsity four consisting of senior coxswain James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.), senior Rochelle Gaudette (Fall River, Mass.) and freshmen Cat Swan (Ashland, Ohio), McKenzie Hartman (Sudbury, Mass.) and Paige Decker (Nantucket, Mass.) posted a third place time of 9;14.4 in their race, as Merrimack and Endicott claimed the top and runner-up spots.

 

The Massachusetts Maritime men’s varsity four comprised of sophomore coxswain Patrick Wall (West Roxbury, Mass.), seniors Michael Pieroni (Arlington, Mass.) and Liam Barry (Wellesley, Mass.), sophomore Nathanael Costa (Forestdale, Mass.) and freshman Scott Jones (Lebanon, N.H.) placed third with a time of 7:46, as Bowdoin and the University of New England finished in the top two positions.

 

Massachusetts Maritime’s men’s novice four consisting of sophomore coxswain Timothy O’Neill (Block Island, R.I.), sophomores Ethan Logan (Vernon, Conn.) and Tyler Vito (Foxboro, Mass.) and freshmen Gregory Couse (Sewell, N.J.) and Shengyi Wang (Shanghai, China) also collected a third place performance with a time of 9:16.4 in finishing behind Bowdoin and Middlebury in the race.

 

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads return to action on Sunday, April 30th at the Clark Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. beginning at 9:00 a.m.
