Crew Squads Combine For Four Top Three Performances At UMass Lowell Regatta

LOWELL, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime crew team posted four top three performances on Saturday afternoon at the UMass Lowell Regatta on the Merrimack River.

The Buccaneer women’s novice eight consisting of sophomore Emily Welsh (Shelton, Conn.), freshmen Tess McNally (Marstons Mills, Mass.), Delphine Estebe (Pompano Beach, Fla.), Janeen Manghis (Nantucket, Mass.), Alicia Tarr (Bevelry, Mass.), Emma King (Princeton, Mass.), Lauren Denapoli (Boston, Mass.), Danielle Guidry (Nashua, N.H.) and Gretchen Kramer (Stafford, Va.) finished second to the host River Hawks in competition with a time of 7:57, while the women’s novice four of McNally, Estebe, Manghis, Tarr and King finished second to Amherst with a time of 8:14.6.

The men’s novice four of freshman Timothy Matchett (Smithfield, R.I.), Craig Lohr (Mashpee, Mass.), Douglas Courtot (Wrentham, Mass.), Matthew Mourey (Franklin, Mass.) and Devin McNeil (Westford, Mass.) placed third with a time of 7:25 in the event, while the men’s second novice four consisting of freshman coxswain Angella Esposito (Dorchester, Mass.) and fellow freshmen Chip Vaivarins (Plymouth, Mass.), William Walsh (Shelton, Conn.), Jonathan DeMeo (Hanover, Mass.) and Robert Meyer (Marietta, Ga.) also placed third in their event with a time of 7:44.

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads will travel to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday morning to compete in the 2010 New England Championships on Lake Quinsigamond beginning at 9:00 a.m.
