MEDFORD, Mass. -- Senior Dave Katzman (North Andover, Mass.) rapped out a pair of hits and drove in three runs to lead Tufts to a 14-1 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday afternoon at Huskins Field.

The host Jumbos (5-10) took a 1-0 third inning lead on junior Alex Perry's (Danvers, Mass.) second home run of the season, but the visiting Buccaneers (5-7) evened matters in the fourth when senior Tyler Spofford (Sharon Springs, N.Y.) doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI groundout off the bat of sophomore Wil Rodriguez (Lowell, Mass.). Tufts plated a pair of tallies in the bottom of the fifth on a steal of home by junior Anthony Fucillo (Winthrop, Mass.) and an RBI double by Katzman, and the Jumbos broke things open in the seventh with an 11-run frame (five earned), as the hosts strung together four hits and took advantage of three errors in an inning highlighted by Katzman's two-run single to close out the scoring.

Perry added two hits and pair of RBI in the win for Tufts, which also received two RBI from senior Ari David (Lincoln, Mass.) as part of a nine-hit attack, while sophomore Derek Miller (Whitman, Mass.), the fourth of eight hurlers on the afternoon, picked up the win with a scoreless inning of relief work for the Jumbos. Spofford, senior Joe DeFrank (Twin Valley, Pa.) and sophomores Ross Hickey (Centerville, Mass.) and Michael Vargas (Natick, Mass.) each collected hits in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as sophomore Corey Murphy (East Wareham, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound for the Buccaneers, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out five in four innings of work.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Emerson in a non-league outing on Friday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Tufts heads to Hartford, Conn. on Friday afternoon for a NESCAC match-up with defending national champion Trinity that begins at 3:00 p.m.
