BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Senior Mark Mozelak (New Hartford, Conn.) rapped out four hits and drove in four runs as Massachusetts Maritime posted season highs in both runs and hits in notching a 23-13 non-league college baseball victory over Newbury in the season finale for both teams Tuesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field.

The host Buccaneers (12-16) chipped away at an early five-run deficit and took a 6-5 advantage with a five-run third inning outburst, and Massachusetts Maritime took control of the contest by scoring 15 runs in the middle innings, including a three-run homer off the bat of senior Tyler Spofford (Sharon Springs, N.Y.) in the fourth to go with Mozelak's two-run single and sophomore Nick Levitre's (Grafton, Mass.) two-run double in the fifth. Junior Joe Albano (Agawam, Mass.) belted a two-run homer in the sixth for the hosts, who also received a two-run single off the bat of sophomore Sarkis Nahigian (North Falmouth, Mass.) in that same frame.

Albano joined Mozelak in notching four hits in the triumph for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received three hits and four RBI from sophomore Wil Rodriguez (Lowell, Mass.) and a pair of hits and four RBI from Levitre. Sophomore Corey Murphy (East Wareham, Mass.) and freshmen Nick Montalto (South Yarmouth, Mass.) and Kyle Armstrong (Whitman, Mass.) each added two hits for the Buccaneers, as Montalto blasted his second home run of the spring. Sophomore Neil Patnaude (North Andover, Mass.) picked up the win for the hosts in allowing a pair of unearned runs and striking out two in three relief innings, while junior David Hike (Riverview, Fla.) allowed just one earned run and fanned a pair over the final four innings to record his second save.

Freshman Alex Chetelat (Farmington, Conn.) rapped out a pair of hits and drove in three runs, including his fifth home run of the season, in the setback for the visiting Nighthawks (6-28), who jumped out to a 5-0 advantage in their first at-bat highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of senior Brian Fish (East Brookfield, Mass.). Newbury also tallied five times in a sixth inning highlighted by senior Wayne Borden's (Methuen, Mass.) two-run double and closed out it scoring in the seventh on freshman Joseph Herer's (Needham, Mass.) RBI double. Sophomore Nick Dunn (Portland, Maine) and freshman Patrick Curry (Hampstead, N.H.) joined Chetelat and Fish in collecting two hits each for the visitors, as freshman Matthew Hrasky (Marion, Mass.) suffered the setback in three innings of work on the mound for the Nighthawks.
