BUZZARDS BAY, Mass.-- Sophomore Victor Torres (Bronx, N.Y.) rapped out three hits as part of a 12-hit attack to lead Eastern Nazarene to a 15-4 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field.

The visiting Crusaders (8-7) snapped a 2-2 tie by plating seven runs in the top of the third, as a two-run single by freshman Jonathan Ovalles (Bronx, N.Y.) and four miscues in the frame by the host Buccaneers (4-4) accounted for the scoring. Eastern Nazarene added three more tallies in the fourth on RBI singles by Torres and sophomore Anthony Melendez (Yonkers, N.Y.), and the visitors plated three more runs in the late innings on RBI singles off the bats of senior Sam Mohnkem (Petersburg, Pa.) and freshman Carlos Silver (Manhattan, N.Y.) to close out their scoring.

Massachusetts Maritime, which saw its four game winning streak come to an end with the setback, evened matters at 2-2 in the bottom of the first on a two-run double by sophomore Ross Hickey (Centerville, Mass.) after the Crusaders had taken the early lead on a pair of bases loaded walks, and the Buccaneers plated their other two runs of the day in the seventh on an error and a sacrifice fly by sophomore Michael Vargas (Natick, Mass.).

Melendez, Silver, Ovalles and freshman Danny Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) each drove in two runs in the triumph for Eastern Nazarene, as sophomore Justin Denbow (Readfield, Maine), the first of six Crusader hurlers in the contest, picked up the win by fanning four over the first three innings. Hickey rapped out three hits to go with his two RBI on the afternoon for Massachusetts Maritime, as freshman Mark Backstrom (East Taunton, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound for the Buccaneers, allowing just three hits and four earned runs in 2 1/23 innings of work.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Gordon in a non-league outing on Thursday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Eastern Nazarene hosts Lasell in a non-league contest on Friday afternoon in Quincy, Mass. beginning at 3:30 p.m.
