BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Sophomores Sarkis Nahigian (North Falmouth, Mass.) and Wil Rodriguez (Lowell, Mass.) each scored on wild pitches with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning as Massachusetts Maritime rallied for an 8-7 non-league college baseball victory over Coast Guard Thursday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field.

The host Buccaneers (8-12) trailed 7-6 heading into bottom of the extra frame, as an RBI double off the bat of senior Brian Yurovich (Marlboro, Mass.) had given the visiting Bears (6-20) the one-run cushion. Junior Joe Albano (Agawam, Mass.) led off with a walk and advanced to second when Rodriguez reached on a fielder's choice, and after a sacrifice, freshman pinch-hitter Kyle Armstrong (Whitman, Mass.) walked to load the bases. Nahigian, who was pinch-running for Albano, scampered home on the first wild pitch with a 1-0 count on freshman Nick Montalto (South Yarmouth, Mass.), and Rodriguez plated the game-winner on the third pitch of Montalto's at-bat for the hosts.

Coast Guard grabbed a 1-0 first inning advantage on an RBI double by freshman Eddie Kalankiewicz (San Diego, Calif.), but Massachusetts Maritime took a 2-1 edge in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by senior Mark Mozelak (New Hartford, Conn.) as well as a balk before plating single tallies in the second on an error and in the third on an RBI single by sophomore Ross Hickey (Centerville, Mass.) to take a 4-1 lead. The Bears took advantage of three hits, including a two-run single by junior Keith Laird (West Chester, Pa.) and Yurovich's RBI single, and a pair of errors to score five times and take a 6-4 fourth inning lead, but the Buccaneers evened matters in the seventh on RBI singles by Hickey and senior Tyler Spofford (Sharon Springs, N.Y.), setting up the 10th inning heroics.

Montalto, Hickey and Rodriguez each had two hits as part of a nine-hit attack in the win for Massachusetts Maritime, as sophomore Nick Levitre (Grafton, Mass.) improved to 2-1 on the mound for the Buccaneers with 6 2/3 innings of three-hit relief that featured nine strikeouts. Yurovich, Laird and junior Ryan Milligan (Shamong, N.J.) each had two hits as part of a 10-hit effort for Coast Guard, as freshman Nic Freburg (Palm Harbor, Fla.) suffered the setback on the mound for the Bears, allowing just one hit in 3 1/3 innings of relief with a pair of strikeouts.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Salem State in a MASCAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at Noon, while Coast Guard heads to Springfield, Mass. for a NEWMAC twinbill with Springfield that begins at 11:00 a.m.
