FORT PIERCE, Fla.-- The Massachusetts Maritime baseball team opened its 2009 schedule by dropping a pair of identical 7-0 non-league decisions to Alvernia (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon at the Florida Coast Training Complex.

Freshman Nate Eldridge (South Yarmouth, Mass.) rapped out a pair of hits in his collegiate debut for the Buccaneers (0-2), while juniors David Hike (Riverview, Fla.) and Matthew O'Brien (Swampscott, Mass.) suffered the setbacks on the mound to the Crusaders (3-2).

Massachusetts Maritime wraps up its Southern swing on Sunday afternoon when the Buccaneers square off with Elizabethtown (Pa.) in a non-league outing at the Florida Coast Training Complex beginning at Noon.
