Bucs receive MASCAC All-Conference Honors

Four players from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy baseball team were selected to the Massachusetts State College Athletic Association 2008 All-Conference team. In addition, Buccaneers Head Coach Bob Corradi received MASCAC Coach of the Year Honors.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Nick Levitre (Grafton, MA) was received MASCAC Rookie of the Year honors. Levitre made 16 appearances for the Bucs this spring, including two starts. He compiled a record of 4-0 with an ERA of 1.86. Levitre gave up just eight runs in 38.2 innings of work, while striking out 26. He grew stronger and more confident as the season progressed, and will be a key figure for MMA next year.

Three Buccaneers were selected to the All-MASCAC Second Team, led by senior captain A.J. Garstang (Southington, CT). The starting right fielder this spring, Garstang started 33 of the teams 34 games this season. He hit .273 with three home runs and drove in 21 runs. Garstang also had nine stolen bases and led the team in runs scored with 32.

Junior starting shortstop Mark Mozelak (New Hartford, CT), hit .312 for the Buccaneers this spring. He led the club in home runs (5), RBI (29), doubles (11), total bases (62) and in slugging percentage at .569.

Both Mozelak and Garstang earned all-conference recognition in 2007, Mozelak being named to the MASCAC first-team and Garstang to the second-team.

Sophomore pitcher David Hike (Riverview, FL) finished the season with a record of 4-4. Hike made 15 appearances for MMA including seven starts. He ended the year with an ERA of 3.52. Hike led the Bucs in saves (3) and threw two complete games.

For Head Coach Bob Corradi this season marked his 35th year as skipper of the Buccaneers (498-513) and the third time he has been named conference Coach of the Year' having earned the honor in 1982 and 1999.
