Buc Women Finish Eighth, Men Finish Ninth at UNE Invitational

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Coming off of a good start to the season at Endicott last week, the Buccaneers took on a tough UNE course in Maine. The Maritime women finished eighth overall, the men came in at ninth in their race.

For the Maritime women, senior Meaghan Hamilton (Braintree, Mass) was the top finisher for the team with a time of 25:17.5. Good for a 51st place finish overall. Sophomore Sarah Smialek (Dartmouth, Mass) crossed the finish line in 54th place with a time of 24:30.7. Freshmen Sue Bird (Duxbury, Mass) and Alyssa Greico (Andover, Mass) finished third and fourth for the Bucs in 55th and 58th place with times of 24:31.7 and 24:36.0. Overall, the Bucs posted a total time of 2:04:20.8 for an eighth place finish out of a total of 13 teams.

For the second straight week, Senior Daniel Plumb (Hopkinton, Mass) was the top Maritime finisher with a time of 28:59.7. His time was good for a 30th place finish overall. Freshmen Michael Fappiano-Puttre (New Ipswich, N.H.) and Ben Tuttle (Barre, Mass) finished second and third for the Bucs with respective times of 29:54.8 and 30:59.3. As a team, the Buccaneer men finished with a total time of 2:34:09.4 in their ninth place finish out of 13 total teams.

The Buccaneers are in Dartmouth, Mass for their next race, the Shriner's Invitational, hosted by UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday, September 21st.
