Fograshy Sets Pace As Women's Cross Country Places 18th In Team Competition At Gordon Pop Crowell Invitational

WENHAM, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime cross country teams posted solid performances at the Gordon Pop Crowell Invitational on Saturday afternoon, as the Buccaneer men placed fifth of 24 teams competing while the Buccaneer women finished 18th among 27 entrants in the field.

Junior Patrick Dannaher (Arlington, Va.) led the way on the men's side for Massachusetts Maritime by posting a time of 28:14 over the 8K layout, while fellow junior Paul Matz (Plainville, Mass.) followed in 30th place with a time of 28:39.  Freshmen Daniel McCloskey (Wakefield, R.I.) and Chad McCarthy (Sutton, Mass.) were next with times of 28:44 and 29:17 that were good for 32nd and 45th place, respectively, while junior Brian Maniglia (Pennsville, N.J.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring by finishing 50th individually with a time of 29:27.  Host Gordon won the event with a team score of 62 points, while Johnson & Wales finished in the runner-up spot seven points back.

Senior Lauren Fograshy (Monson, Mass.) was the top performer on the women's side for Massachusetts Maritime, as she finished 55th individually with a time of 21:18 over the 5K layout.  Freshman Devon Smith (Hull, Mass.) and senior Kaitlin O'Donnell (Damascus, Md.) were next in 128th and 130th place, respectively, with times of 22:50 and 22:54, while sophomore Emily Burbank (Yarmouthport, Mass.) and freshman Sophie Enman (Marblehead, Mass.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring by finishing 164th and 218th, respectively, with times of 23:57 and 26:08.  Wellesley took top honors on the women's side with a team score of 38 points, while Southern Maine was second with 65 points.

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads travel to Westfield, Mass. next Saturday morning to compete in the Westfield State James Earley Invitational at Stanley Park that begins at 10:00 a.m.
