How It Happened

The Buccaneers played well in the first set, even erasing a three-point deficit early on and going on a six-point run to take a 10-7 lead. Salem would diminish the Buccaneer lead and the game would have multiple lead changes leading up to the final few points. Maritime took a 21-20 lead late in the set but were unable to finish it off as Salem went on a 5-0 run to take the first set.

The second set did not go so as well for the Bucs. The Vikings jumped out to a 4-0 lead to begin the game and while the Bucs chipped away slowly, Salem eventually opened up a 10-point, 15-5 lead. From there, the Vikings would capitalize on some Buccaneer errors and a number of kills by McDowell and service aces from Le, scoring the next 10 of 14 points, including a five-point run and a four-point run to win the second set, 25-9.

Much like set two, things went very well for the Vikings. The hosts started the third and final set by going on a 9-0 run. Maritime got on the board but would go down 15-4 midway through the set. The Bucs went on a 3-0 run, thanks to a Salem error and two Sheehan aces to cut the score to 15-7. From there it was all Salem, scoring 10 of the final 14 points once again to win the set 25-11 and the match 3-0.
