Bucs Drop Second Game of Maritime Classic to Maine Maritime

BRONX, N.Y. – Sunday morning, the Buccaneer volleyball team played their second of three matches in the ninth annual Maritime Classic tournament, hosted by SUNY Maritime, against Maine Maritime. The Bucs fell in straight sets, 25-11, 25-10, 25-17, to fall to 0-7 on the season.

For the Bucs, Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass), Jen Roy (Attleboro, Mass) and Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass) all tied for a team-high two kills in the match. Sophomore setter, Madison Coughlin (Monroe, Conn) led the team in assists with eight while Libero Christina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass) added two service aces for the Buccaneers.

The Mariners were led by Rachel Melampy with a match high 12 kills. Sydney Adams led the match with 20 assists while Hannah Butland assisted her teammates 13. Rachel Bunker helped out her team with four service aces.

The Bucs kept the first set close, trading point with the Mariners. Maine took a 6-4 lead in the game and then went on an eight-point unanswered run. The Bucs finally answered with four straight points followed by another Maine run that saw them out to a 23-9 lead, eventually taking the set 25-11. The second and third sets were more of the same, as Maine took the second set 25-10 and the third 25-17.

The Bucs follow their match with Maine Maritime with a 1pm start against host, SUNY Maritime.
