Salem State Claims Volleyball Win Over Bucs
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - Salem State University evened their record at 3-3 Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center over Massachusetts Maritime (0-2) by scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-12.
The Vikings broke an 8-8 tie in the opening set on the way to a 25-17 win. Salem took an early lead in the second set building a 10-5 lead. The Vikings increased their advantage to a 13 point lead as they claim the win at 25-11.
In the third set Salem pulled out to a quick 10-3 lead and held on for a final set 25-12 victory.
Danielle Joseph (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) had six kills for the Vikings and Mackenzie Salls (Turners Falls, Mass./Turners Falls) finished the night with five service aces.
Tina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass./Bourne) led the back line for the Buccaneers with 15 digs, followed closely by Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) who had 10 digs, to which she added four kills. Jen Roy (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) also had four kills for Massachusetts Maritime and Kaylee Tolman (East Sandwich, Mass/Sandwich) drove home a pair of kills and had five digs. Brooke Naatz (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) had a solid match with four digs and a kill.
The Buccaneers return to the court Thursday, September 13 when they will host Dean College at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center at 7 PM. Salem State hosts Mitchell College Thursday at 7 PM.
