Volleyball Set To Take Court For Home Opener

Volleyball takes to the court to open the new fall season on Saturday, September 8 at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center at 11 AM, when the Buccaneers will host Becker College. Massachusetts Maritime Academy, under Head Coach Jenna-Lynn Geary, lost one senior to graduation after last season and is bringing a veteran roster to the court this fall.

The squad will be captained by Jen Roy and Marie Harrison. Roy, a senior and a big presence in the middle for the Buccaneers lost time last year to injury, but is healthier, stronger and expected to provide some punch offensively at the net. Harrison had a solid season in 2017 earning all-conference second team honors.  She is expected to once again provide the Bucs with power up front.

Tina Ruggeri, the team's libero, is also back for another season and will anchor the back row.

"I am very excited for this season because we have a great group of girls returning along with a good amount of freshman recruits," coach Geary said. "We have been through our ups and downs last season with injuries, but it has only made us stronger as a team. I have a great coaching staff. This will be Jake Girard's second year as my assistant and Kevin Reidy was promoted to assistant after two years of being the team manager."

The Massachusetts Maritime Buccaneers will play their first four matches at home before taking to the road for four. They return to Clean Harbors Athletic Center for a meeting with Bridgewater State, before wrapping up the month of September with games at Colby-Sawyer and Suffolk University.

October opens at home against Lasell, followed by a pair of matches on the road. MMA is home on October 9, when they will host Fitchburg State, after which they begin a five game road swing taking on Fisher, Westfield State, Framingham State, Dean and Pine Manor.

The Buccaneers will concluded the regular season at home on October 26 hosting MCLA.
