The Worcester State Lancers (6-4) volleyball team swept the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy (0-2) Saturday, 3-0.
Brittany Stoddard (Orange, Mass./Mahar) and Lauren Saylor (Swansea, Mass./Case) led WSC at the net each recording four kills. Katey Figella (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) had a strong afternoon at the service line for the Lancers recording 13 aces.
WSC recorded wins of 25-1, 25-9 and 25-6.
In the opening game the Lancers took control from the initial serve and kept the pressure on the young Buccaneer squad. In the second game Samantha Foley (Forestdale, Mass./Sandwich) gave the Bucs a game opening 4-2 lead from the service line, however MMA wasn't able to hold on to the advantage. Aggressive defense in the third game by MMA's Victoria Presutti (Marshfield, Mass./Archbishop Williams) slowed the Lancers, until Worcester unleashed their superior firepower on the Buccaneers for the win.
