Bio

John Sousa has been the head women's soccer coach at Massachusetts Maritime since 2019.

Coach Sousa came to The Academy from Bristol Community College.  After being appointed as Head Women's Soccer Coach in late February he was able to recruit enough players which lead to one the teams more successful seasons at 5-5 and third overall in Region 21.  Kassidy Raposo was named to The All Region 21 team and several athletes will be playing at The Division III  level.  With the success of the program and his unique recruitment outlook, Bristol named him as their first Athletic Recruiter.  Prior to Bristol John coached at Wareham High School where he greatly improved the program. Coach Sousa began his head coaching career on the boy’s side with Cranston East, a team that received the RI Sportsmanship Award.

John experienced the most success at the club level with Abbey Villa SC, where his u15 boy’s team was one of the top ranked team in Massachusetts and Region 1, with multiple players currently playing at the division one level.  John has his USSF C coaching license and many nscaa diplomas.

John was a standout three sport athlete at Seekonk High School (Soccer, Basketball, and Track).  John has his masters degree from Umass Dartmouth in special education and his bachelors in History.  While at Umass Dartmouth his soccer and track career were cut short due to injury.
