FITCHBURG, Mass -- Women's Soccer traveled to Fitchburg State on Saturday to open their conference play against the Falcons. The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first 45 minutes. In the second half, Fitchburg found the back of the net twice to take the match 2-0.
The Buccaneer took seven shots in the game with two from Julia Podchaiski. Maritime was efficient in their shot selection, finding the target five times but unable to find the back of the net. Brady Deschamps made 13 saves in the match and allowed two goals in the loss.
Fitchburg's goals came from Maddie Hippert and Elizabeth Read. Kendra Peretzman and Abaigeal Gilman each tallied an assist. Allison Gough picked up the win in goal for the Falcons, making three saves in 78 minutes. Skyla Vaudo came in in relief and made two saves to complete the win for Fitchburg.
It was a quick and quiet first half for both teams with neither able to score. Fitchburg took 14 shots in the half with only five on target. The Bucs were three for five in shots on target in the first 45.
In the second half, the game remained scoreless for the first 10 minutes until Hippert scored on a pass from Peretzman in the 57th minute to take a 1-0 lead. In the 76th minute, the Falcons added an insurance goal when Read scored from Gilman.
The Falcons outshot the Bucs overall, 35-7 and have four corner kicks with the Bucs only having one.
The Buccaneers are home for their next match on Wednesday, September 21st against Rhode Island College at 7pm.
