How It Happened

The Buccaneers went on the offensive early in the match. Feeling out the Mitchell defense, the Bucs threatened early and often but were unable to break through, though able to keep the ball in the attacking third a majority of the time. Late in to the first half, Ari Damery and the Buc offense moved in to the final third again, this time a pass to the middle set Damery up for a shot which was saved by Slover. Unable to handle the ball immediately, the rebound got away from Slover allowing Damery to regain possession, dribble around the keeper and put a slow roller in to the bottom right hand corner of the net, putting the hosts up 1-0 in the 32nd minute. That 1-0 advantage for the Bucs would be the score at the halftime break.

In the second half, it was more attacking for the Buccaneers early. In the 61st minute, a Mitchell foul in the box allowed the Bucs an opportunity to double their lead. The referee placed the ball on the penalty spot, 12 yards from goal. McNally stepped up and fired a shot in to the bottom left hand corner to make it 2-0 Bucs. Five minutes later, with seemingly fresh legs, Ari Damery received a pass from Sasha Alves (Freetown, Mass) on the left side of the field just behind the midfield line. Damery did the rest, beating her mark and dribbling up the left side of the field, in to the 18 and putting a shot in to the back of the net to extend the host lead to 3-0. Late in the game, in the 88th minute, Mitchell erased the clean sheet opportunity for the Bucs by scoring on a Corrigan shot over the head of Albertson to bring the score to 3-1. With little time left on the clock, the score remained 3-1 as the clock struck zeros. The Buccaneers claimed their first victory of the season, 3-1, over Mitchell.
