Buccaneers Lose at Home to Rams in non-Conference Play

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – Tuesday night, the Buccaneers hosted the Suffolk University Rams at Clean Harbors Stadium. The Rams, playing their final game of the 2018 season, wasted little time before getting on the board in the first half, adding a few more goals along the way and kept the Buccaneers off the scoreboard to take the 6-0 win over their hosts.

The Buccaneers were held to seven total shots in the game with three of those shots on target. Sophomore, Anna Deely (Marstons Mills, Mass) led the Bucs with two shots on net, the other coming off the leg of senior Madison Taylor (Longmeadow, Mass). Goalie, Mikayla Houlihan (Middleboro, Mass) faced 12 Suffolk shots, allowing the six goals and saving the six other shots.

For the Rams, sophomore Caleigh O'Brien scored four goals in the game on six shots on target. The other Ram goals were scored by freshman Julia Hunt and sophomore Leto Katsoufis. Hunt also added two assists to her score line, assisting on two of O'Brien's four scores. Sophomores Julia Fieldsend and Melanie Boisvert also each has an assists for the visitors. Goalie, Allison Rodrigues picked up her fourth win of the season between the sticks saving all three of the shots she faced in the game.

In the first half, the Rams scored two goals, both by way of O'Brien, in the 11th and 16th minutes. The Buccaneers took advantage of every opportunity they could to get down field in to the offensive third but, the Suffolk defense and the play of Rodrigues didn't allow them to capitalize on any of their potential chances. The Rams took their 2-0 lead in to the break.

The Buccaneers had a few chances early in the second half and the defense was able to hold the Rams back for some time. Then, in the 58th minute, O'Brien scored her third goal of the game for the hat trick on a pass from Boisvert. Two minutes later, O'Brien added her fourth goal of the game on Hunt's second assist to open the lead up to 4-0. Katsoufis found the back of the net in the 64th minute and Hunt added her goal to the score line in the 85th minute to put the game away, sealing the 6-0 victory for the Rams.

With the loss, the Buccaneers fall to 2-13 on the season. The Rams finish their season 4-10-1 with the win.

Next up for the Bucs is their final game of the 2018 season on Saturday evening at 5pm against Worcester State at Clean Harbors Stadium. Prior to the game there will be a Senior Day ceremony to celebrate the five seniors on this year's Maritime women's soccer team.
