Anchormen Shutout Buccaneers in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Buccaneers were held scoreless on Monday night in Providence against Rhode Island College and held to two shots on goal, losing the game 6-0.

For the Bucs, sophomore Anna Deely (Marstons Mills, Mass) and freshman Hayley Caufield (Cheshire, Mass) had the only shots on target in the contest. Starting goalkeeper Mikayla Houlihan (Middleboro, Mass) allowed the six Anchormen goals while saving 12 of the 18 shots she faced. In the second half, senior Rachel Gardner (Bourne, Mass) took over between the sticks and saved the lone shot she faced.

The Anchormen had four different scorers in the game with Soleil Galagarza and Brooke Young scoring two each in the game. Olivia Capraro racked up three assists in the game for RIC. Goali Erica Edwards started the game and saw no shots in her half of play. In the second half, Carissa Gaglione faced and saved the two Buccaneers shots.

All of the RIC goals were scored in the first half, in the first 20 minutes of the game. Capraro opened the scoring with her lone goal of the day in the second minute. Galagarza and Young scored their firsts before the fifth minute to give the Anchormen a 3-0 lead. Young would score again in the 10th minute, Galagarza in the 13th. Morgan Laplume scored the sixth and final RIC goal in the 19th minute.

With the loss, the Bucs fall to 1-11 on the year. Next up for Maritime is a trip to Pine Manor College on Wednesday at 3:30pm.
