BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – Thursday night, the Buccaneers women's soccer team faced off against non-conference opponent Newbury College at Clean Harbors Stadium looking for their first win of the season against the 1-5, 10-player Nighthawks. After 90 minutes of play, the Buccaneers were victorious by a final of 5-2 to improve to 1-4 on the season.

For the Buccaneers, sophomore Anna Deely (Marstons Mills, Mass) netted three goals in the game, the first of which was her first goal of the season. First were a theme for Maritime in the game as Brooke Miles (Lynn, Mass) scored her first goal of not only the season but of her career in the 76^th minute. Junior Emma McNally (Mashpee, Mass) also scored her first goal of the season in the 83^rd minute. The leading goal scorer for the Bucs on the season, Madison Taylor (Longmeadow, Mass) didn't score in the game but she was still a factor, facilitating on two of the MMA goals, which were her first and second assists of the year. Goalie, Mikayla Houlihan (Middleboro, Mass) faced four shots on the night, saving two of them.

The Nighthawks began, and finished, the game with 10 players due to injury. The lack of numbers didn't affect the visitors until later in the game and at the beginning came out strong getting an eighth minute goal from Amanda Cadoso, her first of the season. In the 66^th minute, down 2-1, the Nighthawks found the back of the net a second time as Twalesha Montague scored her second of the season. Goalie, Noelle Sass saw a barrage of shots in the game, 15 to be exact, saving 10 of them.

The Bucs fell behind in the eighth minute on the Cardoso goal but answered quickly to tie the game at a goal apiece in the ninth minute when Deely scored her first. The Bucs took a first half lead two minutes later on Deely's second goal which would take the teams in to the break, 2-1, in favor of the hosts.

The second half started slow for both teams with 20 minutes passing before Newbury tied the game at two by way of Montague's goal in the 66^th minute. From there, it was all Buccaneers with Miles scoring in the 76^th minute, the eventual game winner, to break the tie. McNally scored in the 83^rd minute, Deely followed that up with a 90^th minute goal for the hat trick and the 5-2 victory.

The Bucs are back home on Saturday, September 22^nd at Clean Harbors Stadium to take on the Salem State University Vikings at 5pm.
