Women's Soccer Suffers Setback To Fitchburg

FITCHBURG, Mass. - The Fitchburg State Falcons scored a goal in each half Saturday morning as they dealt the Massachusetts Maritime Buccaneers a 2-0 loss.

Massachusetts Maritime kept the pressure on the Falcons, but could not find the shooting lanes. The Bucs forced Fitchburg keeper Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass./Nauset Regional) to make six saves, while at the other end of the field Buccaneers keeper Mikayla Houlihan (Middleboro, Mass/Middleboro) stopped nine Falcon bids.

Madison Taylor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) fired eight shots at the Fitchburg net with four of them on the mark, only to be denied by Hemmings. Brittany Munson (Tolland, Mass/Southwick-Tolland)) and Colleen Sullivan (Braintree, Mass./Norfolk Aggie) also had shots on goal for MMA.

Mikaela Mitchell (Millbury, Mass./Millbury Memorial) and Elicia Marshall (Taunton, Mass./Bristol-Plymouth) each scored for Fitchburg State.

Massachusetts Maritime (0-4, 0-1 MASCAC) returns to the pitch Thursday, September 20 when they will host Newbury College at 7 PM.
