FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 2, MCLA 1

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Madison Taylor (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winner with 5;26 remaining in the first half, to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 2-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over MCLA Friday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The win enabled the host Buccaneers (3-4, 1-2 MASCAC) to end a 65-match conference winless streak that dated back to September 2008, as after the visiting Trailblazers (0-8, 0-3 MASCAC) grabbed a 1-0 lead just 5:27 into the contest, Taylor’s penalty kick conversion in the 23rd minute evened matters and her school-record setting 12th tally of the season from 10 yards out to the left of the cage proved to be the golden goal for Massachusetts Maritime.  MCLA had taken the early edge when senior Aleah Sangiovanni (Pittsfield, Mass.) converted a feed from freshman Caitlyn Maloney (Troy, N.Y.) on a breakaway, and the visitors had a pair of chances to knot the score in the closing 15 minutes of play that included a deflection off the top off the crossbar but were kept at bay.

Taylor now holds the Buccaneer single-season and career marks for goals (12, 26) and points (25, 58) with her fourth multi-goal performance of the fall, and sophomore Sara Coffey (Norton, Mass.) made that stand up in net with a seven-save effort in goal for Massachusetts Maritime to earn her third win of the season.  Sophomore Megan Richardson (Adams, Mass.) made eight stops in the setback for MCLA, as the Trailblazers held a 15-13 overall shots advantage, but the Buccaneers grabbed a 10-8 edge in shots on goal while taking eight of 12 corner kicks in the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Longmeadow, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon to take on Bay Path in a non-league outing that begins at 4:00 p.m., while MCLA hosts SUNY-Cobleskill in a non-league match on Wednesday evening in North Adams, Mass. beginning at 6:00 p.m.
