FINAL:              SALEM STATE 3, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Allison Celia (Hopkinton, Mass.) netted a pair of goals to lead Salem State to a 3-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Friday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Celia staked the visiting Vikings (2-7-1, 2-1 MASCAC) to a 1-0 advantage in the 25th minute of play on a cross from sophomore Ashley Leboeuf (Dracut, Mass.), and freshman Colleen Hurley (Braintree, Mass.) extended that margin to 2-0 with her first collegiate tally on a feed from junior Talia Frazier (Waltham, Mass.) with 16 seconds remaining in the opening half.  Celia’s second marker of the match on a cross from freshman Casey McFall (Wilmington, Mass.) provided an insurance goal for the visitors just 2:23 after intermission, as the host Buccaneers (4-4-1, 0-3 MASCAC) closed back to within two in the 62nd minute when freshman Cammi Balentine (Haverhill, Mass.) converted a feed from sophomore Madison Taylor (Longmeadow, Mass.) to account for the final score.

Sophomore Amanda Backe (Danvers, Mass.) picked up her second win of the season with a four-save effort in goal for Salem State, while freshman Sara Coffey (Norton, Mass.) made nine stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime.  The Vikings outshot the Buccaneers by an 18-6 margin overall (12-5 on goal) and took 13 of the 15 corner kicks in the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Bay Path in a non-league outing on Tuesday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Salem State heads to Wenham, Mass. on Tuesday evening to take on Gordon in a non-league match that begins at 7:00 p.m.
