THROGGS NECK, N.Y.-- Sophomore Madison Taylor (Longmeadow, Mass.) notched her first career hat trick and added an assist for seven points to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 6-1 non-league college women’s soccer victory over SUNY-Maritime Saturday afternoon at Reinhart Field.
Taylor gave the visiting Buccaneers, who are off to the best start in the program’s nine-year varsity history at 3-1 overall, the only two tallies they would need in the opening 14:35 of the contest, while a pair of respective markers by junior Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) and senior Aoife Callinan (West Falmouth, Mass.) in the 24th and 39th minutes of action extended that margin to 4-0. Junior Paige Frankel (Hackensack, N.J.) accounted for the host Privateers’ (2-3) lone goal of the day with 2:14 remaining in the half on a feed from fellow junior Julianna Avitto (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), and Massachusetts Maritime closed out the scoring with a pair of goals in the final 10-plus minutes of play, as freshman Emma McNally (Mashpee, Mass.) scored her first collegiate marker in the 80th minute while Taylor completed her hat trick with 2:49 remaining in the match to account for the final margin.
Callinan picked up a pair of assists to finish with four points in the win for the Buccaneers, who also received a helper from senior Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.). Freshman Sara Coffey (Norton, Mass.) made one save to earn her third victory in four collegiate decisions for the visitors, while sophomore Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J.) made 19 stops in the setback for SUNY-Maritime as Massachusetts Maritime outshot the Privateers by a 32-4 margin and took six of the seven corner kicks in the contest.
Massachusetts Maritime heads into Boston on Tuesday evening to take on Wheelock in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 p.m., while SUNY-Maritime travels into New York City on Tuesday evening to square off with Yeshiva in a Skyline Conference clash beginning at 5:00 p.m.
