FINAL:              FRAMINGHAM STATE 4, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --  Freshman Melissa Sybertz (East Bridgewater, Mass.) netted a goal and an assist to lead Framingham State to a 4-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

The host Rams (9-5-2, 3-1-2 MASCAC) overcame an early 1-0 deficit to even matters on senior Lambrini Varetimos’s (North Attleboro, Mass.) goal in the 33rd minute of action, and Sybertz gave Framingham State the lead for good with 4:51 remaining in the half on a feed from senior Marissa Miele (Hudson, Mass.).  Junior Michaela Hyland’s (East Longmeadow, Mass.) marker in the 69th minute extended the hosts’ edge to 3-1, and sophomore Michelle Nardi (Williamsburg, Mass.) closed out the Rams’ scoring with her first goal of the season that came with 50 seconds remaining in the match.

Freshman Madison Taylor (Longmeadow, Mass.) had given the visiting Buccaneers (4-9, 0-5 MASCAC) an early 1-0 advantage just 8:41 into the contest with her team-leading seventh goal of the season on a feed from fellow freshman Brittany Munson (Tolland, Mass.), and that held up for a 24-plus minute stretch before Varetimos evened matters and Sybertz provided the eventual game-winner.  Sophomore Abby Smith (Quincy, Mass.) and freshman Megan White (Charlton, Mass.) also collected assists in the win for Framingham State, as senior Sara Sullivan (Quincy, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for the hosts without having to make a save in 74-plus minutes of play.  Senior Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.) made 13 stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as the Rams took 17 of the 18 shots on goal.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing on Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Framingham State travels to Newton, Mass. on Wednesday to take on Lasell in a non-league match that begins at 3:00 p.m.
