BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Brianne Beckman (Lakeville, Mass.) and junior Laura Maunsell (Medford, Mass.) each netted a pair of goals to lead Worcester State to a 6-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Beckman’s two tallies came in the opening 4:28 of action to stake the visiting Lancers (5-6, 3-1 MASCAC) to the early advantage, and freshman Kaitlyn Coelho (Ludlow, Mass.) extended that margin to 3-0 at the break with a marker in the 32nd minute of play.  Maunsell scored both of her goals in a 46 second span shortly after intermission to give Worcester State a 5-0 edge, and junior Gaby Gonet’s (Agawam, Mass.) unassisted tally with just under 10 minutes remaining accounted for the final score.

Maunsell assisted on Coehlo’s marker to finish with five points in the win for the Lancers, who also received a marker and helper from Gonet as well as an assist from sophomore Therese Morss (Marion, Mass.).  Sophomore Danielle Grumbaum (Marlboro, Mass.) picked up the shutout win in goal for Worcester State with a three-save effort, while freshman Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.) made 13 stops in the setback for the host Buccaneers (1-8, 0-4 MASCAC) as the Lancers outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 31-4 margin for the match while holding a 9-2 advantage in corners on the day.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Pine Manor in a non-league outing that begins at 4:00 p.m., while Worcester State will be idle until next Saturday, October 13th when the Lancers head to Salem, Mass. to take on Salem State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match that begins at 1:00 p.m.
